Hi.

Welcome to my new-ish blog.
I write about a mish-mash of things, whatever takes my fancy, when it takes my fancy. I am working on consistency though… 2022 is my year, right!

I don’t think I’m anyone special, I do love a good story though.
I firmly believe we all have various chapters in our lives that we progress through. We can’t skip pages, each one we turn reveals something new.

I just want to share some of my story without being a slave to providing content or trying to influence anyone about anything.
My opinions are my own and this is my experience, nothing more.

I try to read a lot, usually have music in the background, and I’ll break into spontaneous dance if the song is a good one.

I practice what I preach: kindness and coming from a place of love. I’m a gentle soul for the most part, working on self love, healing, and growth.

I’ve removed a lot of content from over the years giving the website a refresh, keeping things relevant, and building upon new knowledge and experiences

I hope you’ll stay for a bit and enjoy reading me.

Thank you.

Travelling while Keto

Travelling while Keto

May 2017

I’m about to face one of the most challenging weekends, a foodie weekend in Melbourne!

I’m going to be presented with all sorts of gourmet delights, high carb options, junk even, but I am determined to not falter in my Keto way of eating.

The Executive Lounge... lots of carbs, but I found keto friendlies too

I’m fortunate that I have been predominantly Keto for quite a while, and strictly since the start of April. My weight loss results, and slow body transformation are a testament that this way of eating is the right choice for me. And I don’t want to blow it.

With the strict Keto that I have been doing since April, I have incorporated Extending Fasting, having conquered Intermittent Fasting in the previous six months. Extended Fasting involves a choice to fast beyond that 24 hour mark. I have worked up to fasting for a 42 hour block each week. The reason behind this is to give your digestive system a period of rest, allow your insulin levels to remain stable with no unexpected rises, gives hormones a chance to balance, and to rest the bowel.

I tend to do my extended fast on my big work day. I have a good volume of remote work to do from home, followed by a usually hectic night behind the desk at work. I don’t arrive home until 10pm, so am inclined to just have drink before winding down to sleep. This makes the extended fast quite easy for me to adhere to. The more I’m doing them the easier they’re becoming, though it has taken me over six months to become ready to do this, it’s not something to jump in to immediately, it’s a progression of stages.

I’m not a Keto expert, not a coach, nor do I want to be. I just know it’s been years in the making for me to reach the stage where I’m at, and to be confident in the choices I am making. I’m big on the science behind things, have always been a researcher, and my choice based off both of these is that Keto is for me.

This way of eating has been a slow progression for me. Years ago I cut out sugar, then I very, very slowly started reducing my carbohydrate intake, reducing my fruit intake, then I removed wheat based products from my diet, got myself off dairy milk, eliminated seed oils, and embraced full fat, saturated fats, high fat meats, loads of surface vegetables, a few ground veggies too. It’s not been hard at all. The hardest thing has been listening to my body for the signals that it is genuinely hungry and not nibbly, bored, or being opportunistic. And to not fight with people who throw the out dated bullshit we’re told about what our diet ‘should’ be, what dieticians say we ‘should’ be having, and what we ‘shouldn’t’ be having.

I know the dogma will change with time, it already is. People - the ‘they’ that are often referred to, are conceding to the sugar is poison and addictive theory. Intermittent fasting is now being discussed openly, rather than within the body building communities. The flaws in the studies that promoted the uptake of processed carbohydrates, corn syrup, and fructose into our western diet, the influence of industry in these studies, and the outright lies are now known proven facts. Anyway, I’m not about to hop on my soap box with this. I’m feeling good, doing what’s good for me, and I’m not going to fight with anyone over it, we all have choices and this is mine.

So this tempting foodie weekend in Melbourne, well I’m going in with the mindset of Keto on Baby! I may need to tweak my current amazing routine to accommodate the options I’ll have available to me, but that’s okay. I’m choosing this way of eating, I’m getting phenomenal benefits from it, and it’s part of who I am now. The only person I need to please in all of this is me, so “Go Me!”
