My Second Lesson
Went to the pole studio yesterday and boy was I hanging out for it. I think with the dramatic results I'm getting (recall that only two nights before I got down into a left leg front split for the first time) and the awareness how quickly my body is responding to the new physical demands I'm putting on it... I think I'm developing an addiction! *squeal*
Did the Sculpt and Stretch class before hand again with the 5.4.3.2.1. conditioning session. It was intense and hard but I pushed on through it knowing that each section completed was a section closer to finishing it. The only reason I don't like it is because it's hard, but it's hard because my body needs to be trained so I shut up (no point bitching, I'm choosing to be there) and I focus on that section of the floor, or wall, or the pole. I want to be good at this so badly and the only way to get there is to do the work needed.
Stretch was PNF again, I partnered with Dee Dee and she really pushed me hard. It was great and a bit uncomfortable rather than painful, and again I was able to go down in a left leg front split. So I am up to doing the splits twice now with witnesses, one more time and then I can officially announce, "Sure, I can do a left leg front split." My right leg is still around 10cm's from being flat, but it's getting closer each time too. Karla said she would start working us on middle splits next time, can't wait for that one, I'm still a good 30cm's from being down in them.
My second Course Class followed on from Sculpt and Stretch. There were some familiar faces from last week and four new ones. Everyone was more relaxed this time and chattier, which was really nice. We're all starting to open up about ourselves a bit more and not being as shy. The nice thing is I'll be progressing through with some of these ladies should they keep poling and keep doing it on the same day too. They are a real mix up but all very nice. I love the diversity, makes things interesting and we have poling, shorty shorts, bruises, and choreography in common. Karla added another 25 seconds on to our choreography. I cannot get over how quickly the new ladies picked it up, way better than I would've been coming in late to the course.
Personal victories in the Level 1 dance so far for me include: being able to climb the pole much easier, I was able to grip with my thighs and take one hand away, I did a backwards spin, oh, and I got my first injury... it's pathetic but I got one, so yay to me.
I did say it was pathetic, just a scrape on one of the bolts at the bottom of the pole... but there was blood, okay, a tiny amount - but that still counts, right?
Things I need to work on this week include getting my body rolls deeper and my butt lifts higher. Luckily I don't need a pole for this, any doorway, chair, or countertop I can hold on to balance will do. Oh, plus the stretching but I have a few dancing sessions this week which will help enormously too.
Coming out of a body roll about to go into another. Ladies moved out of the way to not be filmed... no you will not be seeing the footage!
